Managing the Impact of Dairy Farming
Andy Welford is an NFU farmer who is enthusiastically reducing the environmental impact of his dairy farming. At personal expense, Andy and his family have invested in a range of renewable technologies, from a wind turbine and 100kw of solar panels for electric energy, solar thermal, heat recovery, 2 heat pumps for the houses, vacuum on demand and even an electric car. In addition to limiting his carbon footprint with these technologies, Andy is also trialling various land management practices such as reed beds to clean up dirty water runoff. This two-pronged approach to limiting both emissions and local pollution magnifies Andy's climate action.
